Please be aware of deer and elk jumping out when driving especially at night. It could save your life as well as the animals.
The Boys Are Back In Town...The 2012 Tour/Hunters Delight. Just as I was turning into my driveway, this sight caught my eye. There were 3 large bucks eating apples in my neighbors orchard. They didn't like me intruding on their dinner time and they played a bit camera shy, but I managed to get a few pictures anyway.
Deer love apples. We had a box of them sitting on our deck in the shade. This morning I opened the door to let the dog out, and there was a buck almost as big as this one right at the back door eating our apples. Both the buck and I were startled to see each other. The dog didn't care, but he wasn't going to go out there with that set of antlers staring at him. Keep in mind, my dog is a 130 pound Rottweiler puppy. When I say the buck stops here, I really mean it. There were several other deer gathered around waiting to join the buck at the apple buffet table. I don't know who he invited over earlier in the morning, but now I have to buy more apples.
Orchards are plentiful in the Surface Creek area of Delta County, Colorado. Throughout the year the deer get their fill of all kinds of fruit...pears, peaches, apricots and cherries, but apples are their favorite.
We always have more deer in the fall and winter than in the summer. I guess most of them go to higher ground in the summer.
