Albuquerque Old Town Dog
This past Saturday Debbie and I spent part of our day in Old Town Albuquerque. We had heard through the grapevine that there were a couple of dogs in Old Town that hang out on the roof tops of shops. Just as we were leaving we indeed spotted this dog on the roof of Pueblo Don Gaspar. This Albuquerque Old Town Dog wasn’t barking or acting aggressive but simply watching the people go by much the same as we had been doing during the day.

John: What great pictures! I bet that dog enjoys his day, watching everyone. Good thing dogs don't get sunburned- Thanks for sharing! :)
John, I am wandering just how the dog got up there on that rooftop. He certainly has a great view, and can see anyone approaching from any direction. Have a Nice Day in the Q, My Friend!
Looks like he's just doing his job. Watching to see if anything looks out of place. Evidently you and Debbie passed the test. :))
That's funny. He is just keeping an eye on everything. Good doggie.
John
When I was at the Fiesta, I visited Old Town several times. Truly a neat place, cheers cvc
John~ I really enjoy getting out and seeing different site, thanks for sharing this one. "Great moment"- I think that dog knew what he was doing, I bet it's a great view?
Isn't it fun to "people" watch John. Looks like this guy is enjoying the sights just like everyone else...but how did he get up there!!
Definitely a great moment, first you hear about the urban myth and then you see it in person. Great photo!
John, He must be a guard dog providing security to all the good folks like you and Debbie.
John,
I love this post, and I love people who look up and see new interesting perspectives. Love the dog, very handsome! A
Look at that. He's got the best seat in the house!
Guess he was watching the world go by !
Have a great day John
John - Loved the photo, but I also really like how you incorporated your past posts about Old Town Albuquerque into this post. For all of your Albuquerque, NM real estate needs work with a local REALTOR that really knows the area, call John McCormack!
A roof-top guard dog; so very cool!
Good afternoon John.
It looks like a great guard dog.
A great shot.
John,
Amazing shot of a dog who likes to hang out on a roof and people watch. You have to wonder how this dog gets on and or off the roof?
Wow! Too funny!! Bet he has the best view in the house.
That is hilarious! Do you know how they get up there. They have a great vantage point!
John: That is too funny...he's guarding his territory from marauding birds and cats!
John, okay I think it's time for you to stop by and let us know how the pooch got up there.
Hi John,
That is just halarious and I wonder how they get up there? Perhaps there is a staircase going to the roof. Thanks for sharing and giving me a good laugh.
Thanks for sharing your photographs of the watch dogs on the job.
Enjoy the final days of summer with your camera in hand.
That dog looks perfectly comfortable up there on that old adobe! But I bet he could pack a heck of a bite, if he chose to!
Hi John,
Looks like a guard dog to me!! He knows what is happening in the hood!
That is so cool John. They look to be a part of that part of Old Town Albuquerque :)!
John, we seem to be having a problem with dogs and their attitudes. Beware!
These pups have been seen around Old Town Albuquerque for a while now. They are calm, quiet and just people watch not bothering anyone and actually they are cool when spotted. No one seems to know how they get on the roofs. There has to be stairs I can't imagine any other way. I'm glad Debbie looked up and had her camera in hand.
John, Interesting how they are on the roofs. I wonder how they eat. Sounds just like a mother!
John,
So interesting how they just stand up there and observe. Reminds me of the Gray Wolves that used to come to the bottom of the hill and observe me working in the garden when I lived on a farm.
Jo
ok,I have to know. How in the world did they get up there? It isn't like they moved a ladder and climbed it.
Is he a wild dog? I mean is he one that has been turned out to fend for himself? I've seen that in other countries, but not here. I bet he gave people pause.
Cool shots! How did that dog get up there? Looks like he's enjoying the view. Thanks for sharing. Enjoy the rest of the week.
Hi John...
Cool pic, and it looks llike an aweasome place to spend an afternoon.
He looks healthy. I wonder if he belongs to someone?
I have to think this dog belongs to a local store owner. As you mentioned he looks healthy and well cared for and he has some type of collar on. The laws in Albuquerque on dogs running free are extremely strict so he has to have an owner somewhere close that is keeping an eye on him. Still can't figure out he and his other roof climbing pooch pal are getting on the roof tops. Who knows maybe someone in the know will read this post and fill us in on the rest of the story.
Hi John -- that dog has a much better view than sitting by the window all day or sunning in the back yard. Talk about a view.
Good morning John. I too am wondering about how these dogs survive. I hope you are right and these pups are owned and cared for.
This makes me think of the James Taylor song "Up on the Roof." Or is it "Up on the Woof?" Lol.
John - every dog has his day! Good to be on top of the world - lucky dog! Regards Dave
