Fall Means One Thing In New Mexico It’s Chile Time!

In Albuquerque and surrounding NM areas fall means one thing.... It’s chile time! The local Farmers Markets are buzzing with chile lovers! Just like kids in a candy store we hand pick the chiles we will have roasted and freeze for the upcoming winter and summer. Indeed Fall means one thing in New Mexico it’s chile time!

I just saw some fresh Hatch chilis at the store today. They are so good this time of year.
I was at a Mexican restaurant last week. They are having a green chile extravaganza. My friend order the green chile enchilada. She said, "I'm from NM and the peppers are never hot enough." So I guess, NM and peppers go together.
John - Funny, when you're at the store you really don't think about where they were grown. Now I now, they're grown in New Mexico!!!
John - How great - that they will roast them for you, and then you freeze them.. I can recall seeing the mesh baskets turning and roasting the green chilis when we were out in New Mexico...delish!
That is a really neat service that they will actually roast them for you! We have had a wonderful variety of peppers for several weeks now! So, if they'd only fire up a grill at my local Farmer's Market, I'd be in Heaven!
Chile today, hot tamale. Sorry, couldn't resist. What a lovely photo too! Beautiful looking little hotties!
You need to share the best Chile Time recipes. If you will post a recipe a week, I will be happy to re-blog them.
Good food might be one of the best attractions for relocating families.
It is flower time in the east...
I'm sure those chiles are 1 hot item in Albuquerque NM!
Hi John, in Asian countries they like to stuff chili and it is delicious.
Spicy is good.. and those hot chilis will be super delicious!
John,
Fall is great for so many things. Clearly this is right at the top. :)
Steve
Just can't eat them Q Man, and they always look sooooooo good. Not a spicey food kind of guy.
We still have yet to get out box, but we will. I love the smell of roasted chiles.
New Mexico Chiles are great !!!
As we are into the harvesting season up here, many Chili fests are being promoted for the competition
John, I'm not sure about Chili but those Italian hot peppers, I can hardly tolerate. HOT!!!!!
Yum! Do you grow your own?
Hey John, Now you have me thinking what I could make if I had some of them.
Hey John --- one season ends, another begins -- Happy Chile Times.
Hi John, I think the hot chilli peppers are a learned experience. Sadly I don't have any, LMAO.
HATCH CHILE TIME - Yippee!!!. My step father used to make the drive every year from Tucson to Alburqueque to buy boxes of them - it was one of the things he looked so forward to.
Great chili shot! Brings back memories... have I ever told you we lived in Angel Fire, NM for three years? Back then I remember all the wreathes, swags etc. they made out of the chilis.
Gretchen
John, I love those red Chile Ristras. I bought and brought two strands home from Alb. They're so beautiful I couldn't bring myself to pulling the chilies off to eat them.
John, chiles to you must be a lot like blue crabs are to us! Different food groups, but both are good!
Oh, I miss good chiles living here in Virginia! Whenever I go back to my home state of Arizona, I always bring some home in my luggage.
I'd be very interested to try some of the different chile types that I'm sure you get to experience while living in New Mexico.
That's one way to heat up the Fall John! They look good, but tummy says "don't send them down here!"
John, must have missed commenting on this, sorry....it is time for our chiles, too funny the timing of our posts! The SMELL of these chiles are just heavent!
John, This is a great time, lots of great produce is coming into season!
Hatch green chilies are the only chiles my husband will use to make his smoked chicken chili and thanks to the flash freezing process they're available year round here in AZ. Thanks for sharing John.
John,
Your post is now featured in "Majestic Mondays." Congratulations. :)
