August 7 2012 Albuquerque is joining in the National Lights Out.
Albuquerque residents are requested to take part in the National Lights Out (NNO) between 7:00pm - 9pm on August 7 2012.
Albuquerque and neighborhoods across America are suppose to lock your doors, turn on outside lights and spend a couple of hours outside getting to know your neighbors, socialize and if your community doesn’t have a Crime Watch this would be a perfect time to begin one.
Many neighborhoods are having block parties and community anti crime gatherings. Check with your local HOA to see what your neighborhood is doing for the National Lights Out or (NNO)
If you have questions pertaining to this years NNO celebration, please call the APD Crime Prevention Unit at 505.924.3600 or 311 for more details.

What a great event... I've never heard of such a thing. Wish we had one here. It wouldn't work so well for us, though, since we're so rural, without close neighbors. Very environmentally good, too. I remember when our power was out for a couple days last winter, we had the kind of great conversations with our kids that don't normally happen when they're so plugged in.
Gretchen
I've also never heard of this but I like the idea because good neighbors are critical in an emergency and getting to know your neighbors makes sense-we often overlook this in our busy lives!
It is a great time of darkness and joy. It is my first time hearing of the NNO. It is a good idea.
Howdy and evening John
John my friend, that sure is a mighty fine events y'all are holding in the different neighborhoods of Albuquerque! The Town that my lady and I live in, never plans anything for National Lights Out.
Have a good one
Dale in New Hampshire
Reminds me of a song I like... a little hard but still a big... BOOM lights out game over (props to P.O.D.)
Peace my friend
Hi John, after I read your post I looked to see if we had something like it in Phoenix but doesn't appear we do. I really like the idea and hope we can do something like this in the future but when it's this hot in the evenings I think we might have to wait until a little later in the year.
If you live in Albuquerque don't wait until National Light Out to get to know John McCormack he's a good neighbor and a great Realtor.
Hi John. That sounds pretty cool. It will be interesting to see the numbers participating.
Never heard of this either Q Man, but it sounds like a great idea on so many levels.
John, never heard of this. In my community those who are out and about in the evening mingle and those others are hardly seen! Enjoy your day!
Hi John,
Wow I thought they changed this to later in the fall..I better check my infomation on this event..I think I have the wrong date..so glad you posted this. Austin particpates in this every year..great event!
Good Morning John
Thanks for the Lights Out information. Enjoy and have a great day
John, Actually this sounds like a great way to get out and socialize with the neighbors and particpate in The National Lights Out!
That sounds like a really cool idea John. That is a terrific way to get to know everyone in the neighborhood.
John: What a great way to conserve energy and do a bit of socializing as well. I hope many participate.
Interesting John, unfortunately it is not being promoted in my area at all...this is an opportunity to become more socially & environmentally friendly..
We usually have something going on here but I haven't seen anything posted about it yet, John. Great localism post.
Hi John, what a great idea and we are also saving on the electric bill as well.
It would be a great time as well to spend with family.
No cell phones, TV (oh wait the Olympics are on ) video games etc.
Enjoy your lights out with plenty of business cards in hand.
This is really cool John!! What a great way to get out and socialize with others.
Getting outside to meet your neighbors is a great excuse to turn the lights out and socialize.
Good morning John. I like this idea and being is better than running or always doing. Enjoy it yourself. Enjoy the day.
So what are you and the Princess Bride going to do for those 2 hours? Block Party, Movie.... can't say on a family friendly forum such as Active Rain? ☺ HA! Just kidding!! Have fun!!
Good morning, John --- happy to hear that Albuquerque, NM, is participating in National Lights Out (NNO). This is a great reminder to conserve energy whenever possible.
This is a great event. Bastrop, TX has one where the downtown community has a porch sitting night, the people with the great historic homes with big front porches serve lemonade and sweet tea and invite people to come up visit and "sit a spell"
John - what a great way to get to know your neighbors and get outdoors while consevering energy - a win-win! Moreover, it fosters a sense of community!
I like this too. Everyone is so busy these days -- this is such a great way to get acquainted with neighborhood friends.
John - This is the first that I've heard about the "National Lights Out" night. What a great way to get to know your neighbors. If you're not too busy, I bet you and Debbie are organizing your neighborhood get together!
Thesse are important events, John. We also particpate. Have a great weekend...and Suzanne and I have a surprise in store tomorrow.
Q...
I have not heard of anything like that around here ... I guess we are not on the "national" bandwagon!
Hello fellow Bloggers -
I must admit I thought everyone would be on the National Lights Out wagon. It’s been around for 29 years. It’s a big deal in Albuquerque with individual neighborhoods having gatherings, potlucks, meeting local cops, getting to know your neighbor and learning how to set up local neighborhood watches if they’re not already in place.
Debbie and I will be attending our neighborhood party in our area park. Meeting and greeting and you better believe networking the neighborhood informing neighbors ….. YES I am the Realtor® that emails those updated community market reports.
Now you know so round up your locals and join in the National Lights Out August 7th 2012!
John
Networking with neighbors is fun and can be very productive for real estate professionals.
Have an outstanding weekend with your camera in hand.
John, this is interesting, and have not heard of this here in Denver either. Good idea to save some electricity though!
