What great tips on how to save energy in the kitchen. Let's face it the kitchen is the heart of the home and where all seem to end up gathering. So why not get into some energy saving habits.
While the kitchen is one of the most frequently used rooms in your home, it's also one of the most energy-consuming rooms. And it doesn’t help that many energy-hungry large appliances call the kitchen their home. If you want to learn some energy-saving steps you can use in the kitchen, here are a few simple ways to save:
Get in the habit of leaving the kitchen faucet lever in the cold position. Leaving the lever in the hot position uses energy to heat the water - even when you’re not using hot water.
If you’re thinking about buying a gas oven or range, choose one with an automatic electric ignition system. Without having a pilot light constantly burning, you’ll use 41 percent less gas in the oven and 53 percent on the top burners.
Make sure your gas appliances have blue flames. Yellow flames indicate that the gas is burning inefficiently.
Keep range-top burners and reflectors clean so they’ll reflect heat efficiently to save energy.
Try to use pressure cookers and microwave ovens whenever possible. They’ll save energy by greatly reducing cooking time.
