The House Was Almost Ready to Go, But the Seller Sure Wasn’t.
In Home Staging we always talk about making sure the house is well prepared before that “For Sale” sign goes in the front yard. Hopefully the Realtor and Seller working with a Professional Home Stager have updated, edited, cleaned, steamed, packed and prepped to make the property the home any Buyer would love.However in the last year I’ve consulted on more than a few properties where the house was ready to go but the Seller wasn’t. Have you had that happen?
I’ve seen wives refuse Staging because they did not want to sell (even if it meant moving to a newer, bigger house).... Ive had homeowners refuse to do any of the staging recommendations because one spouse really did not want to move into something more appropriate for their current situation.
Selling a home has always been a stressful situation no matter the reasons but it is even more so now for so many homeowners who are having to sell because of lost jobs, lower income and for so very many reasons.
Digging your heels in the ground and not wanting to move or sell, or making it difficult for those who are there to help you is a very human thing to do. ( think back when you were 4!) It’s all about grabbing some amount of control from somewhere when you’re losing it everywhere else.
What we can do is do our best to understand and learn the story behind the sale.
We can do what we can to make sure they feel like “control” is still an option for them.
As a Home Stager... I never say they “have to” do anything, because in reality, they don’t.
