I must admit I’m a bit late in conducting my annual office purge but none the less the time has come and the task nearly complete. Purging my transaction files from 2011 and making room for what will surely be a lucrative 2012 is a daunting task, but there is something about that whole process that is somehow liberating and yet offers reflection.
For me it just feels good to finally clear my file cabinet of the many transactions created in 2011 and to briefly reflect on each. Sometimes the reflection is as clear as a mountain pool and the memories fond and thoughts of my clients bring a smile, others are murky with difficult circumstances, challenging people or major problems.
What keeps my real estate business so interesting is that each transaction is unique, offers special challenges and that those challenges are met. At the end of the day closings happened, homes were sold and I provided the professionalism and guidance my happy and valued clients requested of me.
As I purge I also have to acknowledge those pesky files that did not make it to closing maybe because of a termination, expiration or cancelled listing. I know we all have these but those are the ones that bug me the most. Time wasted, money spent, challenges not met and paychecks not delivered. I am happy and fortunate to say that the large majority have positive reflection and outcome.
