This is a little different of a post for a virtual assistant but I thought I would share since I am a military spouse and know a lot of agents on AR help out military families!

Preparing Your Kids for a Military Move

Preparing for a military move is fairly complex. You have to deal with the same things as a traditional non-military move but also so much more. Often times there isn't much time to plan or the military member is away for the planning so it falls upon the shoulders of the spouse to take care of. What I have learned from experience is that nothing is ever easy with a military move but you will get through it. Most civilians probably think that military families get used to moving and it becomes easy since military members are typically transferred every few years. Well I can say that you get somewhat accustomed to moving and you become more systematic in the moving process but it never gets easier leaving what has become your home, leaving your friends and dealing with military aspect of things. Fortunately the Department of Defense has recently put out a new website for military children in an attempt to assist them during the many military moves they will endure throughout their lives. If you think it is difficult for an adult to wrap their mind around moving try explaining that it is time for another military move to a child. The Military Youth on the Move program is designed for children 6-17. On the website challenging situations kids will face before, during and after a move are some topics covered. Military children share their experiences of a military move, being the "new kid" and they offer advice on how to make the transition of a military move easier. Hearing this from other children makes it easier to comprehend.

Military Youth on the Move Website Features:

Age specific podcasts on:

How to say goodbye

How to make new friends

Staying in touch with old friends

Homework

Saving money

How to choose the right college

Deployment

Divorce

Bullying

A military move is not just stressful and difficult on adults it is for children as well. The website also offers tips and advice for parents on how to make the transition easier for their children and on your family. You can also find information on a military move with an exceptional family member, pet, OCONUS and even a packing guide!

A military move will always be a part of the military life but there are ways to help make the transition smoother for every member of your family. Go check out Military Youth on the Move for yourself!
