Annual Free Fishing Derby - Tingley Beach - Albuquerque
Grab your fishing pole and cast a line in the 6th Annual Free Fishing Derby at the Tingley Beach Central Pond. On Saturday, April 14, 2012 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., fishers of all ages can try to catch tagged trout for derby prizes. A New Mexico fishing license is required for everyone 12 years old and older.
The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish will stock 5,000 rainbow trout for the derby. Catch a tagged trout and pick from over 100 prizes at the Parks and Recreation Department prize table inside the Tingley Station! To receive derby prizes, tagged trout must be caught between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. In addition, the first 40 kids (8 and younger) to catch any trout and bring it to the prize table will receive a free Pirates of the Caribbean sleeping bag. We are also giving away wax worms, provided by Quality Baits, to the first 200 people to report to the prize table (no fish required).
People start lining the shores at sunrise,Beach for the Free Fishing Derby. It is a great a chance for kids and adults to enjoy a fun and friendly fishing competition. Tingley Beach Café and Convenience will offer breakfast burritos and coffee, along with other food and drink, for purchase inside the Tingley Station starting at 7 a.m.
Other than a fishing license, no fee or advanced registration are required.
