2012 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship - The Pit - Albuquerque NM

Final touches are in full swing at The Pit in Albuqueqrue for the 2012 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship. Crews have been working around the clock in preparation for the NCAA, 2012 Men's Basketball Championship.The University of New Mexico will host first and second round games in 2012. The dates are March 15 and 17, 2012. Four games will be played on Thursday, March 15 with two games scheduled for Saturday, March 17. UNM will be hosting the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship for the 10th time, but the first time since 2005.
A total of 37 NCAA Championship games have been played in The Pit since the first time in 1968, including the 1983 Final Four. With eight teams coming, that's roughly a $2-3 million boost for the Albuquerque NM community.

The Pit under went major renovations completed in2011 at a cost of $60 million to bringing The Pit up to an amazing arena.
The Pit 2011 renovations included 60,000 square feet of new space, increasing the number of concession stands and rest rooms, adding new digital signage and video boards, upgrading the locker rooms and training facilities, expansion of the concourse, store, and ticket office, the addition of 40 luxury suites and 300 club seats, and extensive glasswork as well as increased ceiling height, which changed the outside appearance of the arena. The Pit arena in Albuquerque now holds 17,126.
